Insurance Services Organization Rating - Performance Measure 1.15

The Community Development building code enforcement process protects people and property through effective inspections, and enforcement of safe construction practices. This results in a better Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating for the City of Tempe, which keeps insurance costs down for all property owners in the City.

Measure

Achieve an Insurance Services Organization Rating: Building Code Effectiveness Classification of 3 or better.

Why this Measure Matters

Class 1 represents exemplary commitment to building-code enforcement. Cities with well-enforced, up-to-date codes demonstrate better loss experience and their citizens' insurance rates can reflect that. The report is also used as a benchmark for our annual internal review and can help evaluate Tempe's building-code enforcement services and give management an expanded prospective for dealing with important issues surrounding effective building code enforcement.
