Violent Cases Clearance Rate - Performance Measure 1.12
Per the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report (UCR), the Tempe Police Department tracks clearance rates of UCR Part 1 criminal cases. Criminal cases include murder/nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Clearance rates are used to measure the percentage of crimes solved by the police. This performance only looks at the violent crime cases: murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
Measure

Why this Measure Matters
Police clearance rates is a broad attempt to measure the percentage of criminal cases in which an arrest was made or in which a suspect was identified but not brought forward to prosecute. While clearance rates are impacted by prosecutor policies, victim cooperation, and other factors, tracking them gives management a starting point for examining internal elements and process investigations.
